The Scottish Government are looking to hear from care experienced young people on the development of The Care Leaver Payment.

Formerly known as the Care Experience Grant, this new financial support is now being referred to as the Care Leaver Payment. The Care Leaver Payment, as currently proposed, will provide a one-off payment for young people leaving care, with the intention of helping to reduce some of the financial barriers that young people face when moving on from care and into adulthood and more independent living.

They are looking to gather feedback on some aspects of The Care Leaver Payment such as payment’s eligibility criteria, application processes and delivery model.

The Scottish Government are looking to speak to:

  • People over 16 who are still in care
  • People over 16 who have already transitioned out of care
  • People over 16 who are in the process of transitioning out of care

If you meet the above criteria and are comfortable sharing your thoughts on this topic, get in touch with the Carer Leave Payment team by September 26 to attend a user research session. Contact them at: Careleaverpayment.userresearch@gov.scot

If you are unable to attend a research session, you can still share your thoughts. Head to this page to take the survey. This survey closes on September 29.
