Young Scot Hive (#YSHive) and Scottish Canals are looking for 20 young people from across Scotland aged 11-25 to be part of a co-design panel.

This panel will help shape the future of Scotland’s canal network, with a focus on the development of active travel for young people and sustainable change.

What to expect:

Those chosen for the panel will get the chance to meet other young people across Scotland online and in-person in fun and creative, collaborative workshops. You'll also meet with staff from Scottish Canals and work with them to influence the decisions they're making within their organisation.

A dedicated Young Scot staff member will support you throughout your volunteering experience to:

  • Work as a panel to understand the way Scottish Canals delivers its work and gain an on the-ground knowledge of how young people are engaged, supported and included.
  • Establish feedback channels for the Young People’s Panel to inform ongoing decision making within Scottish Canals.
  • Work with Scottish Canals to deliver activity specifically supporting the Young Person’s Active Travel Strategy.
  • Have fun working together in a team, learning new skills and having new experiences.

Next steps

After you’ve applied, we will invite you along to an online Taster & Selection Session on Zoom on Friday 21st April 5-8pm. This is to give you a taste of what volunteering with #YSHive might be like, and for us to meet you. You will earn 150 Young Scot Reward Points for attending this session!

If you can’t attend, we can arrange a separate phone or video call with you.

If we have more applicants than there are spots on the Scottish Canals Partnership, we will reflect on how things went at the Taster & Selection Day to make a decision about who to invite to join the Scottish Canals Partnership.

Successful applicants will be invited to an induction session on Friday 28th April 5-8pm via Zoom.
