'If we have a more fun night at the pictures we'll be surprised.' - The Skinny

The combination of silent film with live music is a thrilling cinema experience like no other!  Our 2023 festival programme features a mix of comedy, drama, magic and mishaps, with cutting-edge musical accompaniment from international performers using a variety of styles.

HippFest has loads going on online too, including a monthly silent film podcast, online talks and events,  lively film community on social media, and regular writing published via the Festival blog. Reward winners will have the opportunity to share their thoughts about the films they see on these channels, including a guest slot on the April/May edition of the Festival podcast. This is a chance to let your creativity shine and have your voice heard!

The full 2023 programme will be launched on Tuesday February 7. Head to to browse the films featuring as part of the Festival, and take your pick.
